Painful negative assumptions that pop up in us about ourselves, that darken our aspirations for a higher, happier life, are much like thorns on the stem of a fragrant rose: the only power they have to hurt us is when we mistakenly close our hand around them.

Part 2

To measure flour for a pie crust causes no pain, but measure your baking skills against those of your friends -- while you are mixing the pie's ingredients -- and all you succeed at doing is making yourself miserable. Comparing ourselves to anyone or anything is, by law, a recipe for pain!
